Personal Information:
Name: Nicky Watts
Explanation: I’m doing a whole series based off casting models with plaster cast, building a sculpture on the cast with Recycle Paper, and then photographing the model wearing it. This is the first from the series. Its called Wear Recycle.
Melissa Rodwell’s Critique: The reason why I chose this shot was because Nicky Watts nailed the idea of what a fashion photograph is! Her use of lighting to light a white hat was right on. She didn’t blow out the whites, she showed the detail in the texture of the hat while using great beauty lighting on the model’s face. The make up and hair are impeccable, a must on a fashion/beauty photograph. Her choice of model was good and I like how she posed the model with her hand gesturing to the hat, forcing the viewer’s eye to return to the hat, the main product of this fashion photograph. Remember, fashion photography is the business of photographing and selling fashion! This is a great example of that. Congrats, Nicky, on a job well done!

This is a great capture. The texture of the hat is what caught my attention as well. A great balance of showcasing both the model’s beauty and the accessory.
Well done, Nikky! Beautiful. I am really impressed with the lighting and the visible texture.

I’m usually really good at making sure this info is up and I’m embarrassed that I didn’t have it up already. This wonderful team made the shot.
Great shot and a very interesting idea for a photoshoot. I also liked the lighting very much!
Congrats well deserved !!! Love the lighting
I really like the whole premise of the shoot with the wearing of recycled materials displayed in such an impressive way. How Nicky used the lighting in such a perfect way to not over amplify the hat’s color shows her caliber as a professional photographer in stunning fashion. Well done!
Fantastic work and a true pleasure to meet you!
