Fabulous!
Beautiful ! Lovely lighting, great posing and photography !
Great to learn more behind the scenes here on this video tutorial !
So amazing! I hope I can be as fantastic as you someday! You should have a Shot of the week contest for photography students, that would be awesome
just an idea haha!
Melissa, your work is incredible, and i love that you do these tutorial videos for us to see how some of it was accomplished. Your use of simple 1-2 light set ups are executed so perfectly.
Would love to maybe see a tutorial on post production one day, to see what the retouching and color grading processes are like. Thanks again!
Wonderful images…
From as far away as New Zealand…
We thank you
Brent & Shirley
I like your mood, your photos take this emotion. No fake just beauty ! Thanks
Oh Melissa you’re always such a pleasure to listen to, always admire your easy-going-way & CONFIDENCE – to watch your making offs is especially A MUST before every photo shooting!!
And images you made! “Just” STUNNING!
Can’t wait for the next one … Stay gorgeoussssss! M.
Amazing styling, beautiful lighting and photography and as usual the processing is fantastic!
Love your videos guys, thanks and keep em coming
The videos get better and better! Can’t wait for the next one.
Beautiful work as always.
These videos are really interesting and always give me great ideas to ‘borrow’
Just one question, why is the umbrella fill light 1/2 flagged off??
Nerdy lighting question, sorry .
I used a flag so I could control how much of the light would fill in the shadow. I didn’t want too much fill. Just a touch. Therefore, I used a flag. ; )
Oh and flags also help in directing where the light will fall!
again a great video. and wondeful photos.
you really have some of the best photog videos on the net.
please keep ‘em coming as they are a great inspiration and informational.
regards
teymur.
Awesome. Love your work and I am so pleased to have found your blog, your work is truely insperational, thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us.
ps: I wanted to ask the “nerdy” flag question too
Love your videos,Melissa, the way you use the light is simply brilliant!!!
Everything GORGEOUS!
ooo, I loooove behind the scenes!
Can’t wait for next one!
Thanks
Anina (“,)
Once again great video and great shots too..its always nice to have a crew that you can trust to do the work…knowing that they can do the job…well done.
Simple setup, terrific results. Guess that makes you a master.
Wicked music by the way, replayed the video twice just to get a kick out of that!
Just wonderful with just a simple small room and lighting like this. I love it. The outcome is fantastic.
, the blueish touch the photos have, is that done with changing white balance? Or is that done with the post-processing in PS by David Skyler? (I didn’t see the flashes colored so I guess it ain’t where gel filters on the flashes, right?)
I do have a question
Thanks for the great video again!
I’m guessing you have a vision of the post work and resulting image before you shoot – it seems to me that your editing is far more than embellishment but integral to the overall vision. That’s quite straightforward lighting although your results are top class. Try working with a model in lingerie next to an open door in the UK in January – no way.
Excellent as ever and thanks for sharing.
Stunning images and and such a simple lighting setup as always.
Is the flag in front of the white umbrella to prevent light from falling on the model or to shape it?
Thanks
Nas
Ah very interesting! amazing what you can do with simple lighting and in a small room, its about creativity, I love your work and your post processing its wonderful.
Looking forward your next vids, keep feeding our hunger for great photography
great work again! dam your videos are awesome! well done.
love to see a technical explaination of your setups.
ie: key light set at f10, high right
fill set at 5.6 back wall etc
any help would be awesome love to see some pre and post shots beside each other of what is captured vs outputted
Hey Melissa,
Another great vid. They are inspiring.
Loved the shots you got. Its great to see the setup and how you work the shoot. Thanks again for sharing.
Keep up the great work!
Cheers,
Dave.
Melissa,
This might be sacriligeous to ask, but it would be great to see an one of your images from this shoot side by side with the unprocessed frame right out of the camera. It will help me put into perspective whether I am getting the most out of my camera and lighting. Thanks. I love what you do.
Glenn
Hey Melissa, another tutorial gem.
I have to say your work makes me graft that bit harder, the photos & tutorials are a sharp poke in the ribs as a reminder of the fellow photographers thats are out there.
Outstanding work as always.
Sheradon. London, UK
ps. your advice regarding shooting in the shade came in handy, pics currently in post-production. thanks again
GOD I LOOOOOVE the videos !!!!
they get me so inspired and excited !!!!
does that make me a nerd???
lol
I don’t care
I really like your videos (and, btw, I love your bangs!).
Iinspirational….love the californication vibe your videos have.
Wonderful video and beautiful images! Excellent work!
WOW. You are the best. I am so happy to have found your blog. Such meat and inspiration at the same time. I read every entry over two days!
Want to add some love to the mass of praise here.
Faaaaaaantasic images
so of course I love this video and the information that I glean out of it… for example the simple interview in the beginning about how the creative process comes about…. so on that note, it would be very helpful to me to hear the exchange of conversation going on between model/photographer and creative staff while the photography is going on – why? It helps me understand what goes on during a professional shoot…. how much you as a photographer have to provide input, etc.etc….
of course, that probably requires a whole post production video team (start hiring!!)…. so I don’t want to sound like an in-grate…!
I do adore your videos… as one of your readers commented…. the best dang videos out there… PERIOD!
Wow!!!, Your work is amazing, really inpiring, I admire your work Melissa Rodwell, If you need an assistant call me
Thank you for this excellent video. I will be shooting some beauty work for the first time this week and your video has helped tremendously.
Impressive! Could we see the SOOC images before the retouching? Just to get an idea how the result really looks like

I love your tones and color, always resulting in the perfect mood to each shoot.
Need and assistant/bag carrier/light positioner/tea maker?
Melissa
I have been following you for a while and whilst I gained inspiration from you many moons ago I have decided that 2011 will be the year that I put that inspiration into practice.
This shoot shows you don’t need £1000s worth of lighting equipment to get great results. I have one question what post processing process have you used to get the look to the finished images.
Richie
WOW!!! You are such an inspiration Melissa
