Amber Mortensen

Personal Information:

Name: Amber Mortensen

Explanation: I love vintage fashion and wanted to create an image that encompassed the many different eras represented by the clothes, but also have a fantasy feel. I used ethereal lighting and made the colors look a bit aged. I love lens flares the way they are used in 70′s fashion photography so I took inspiration from that as well.

Melissa Rodwell’s Critique: There were a lot of submissions this week and a lot of them were excellent! It was hard to choose, but I went with this shot for a couple of different reasons. For one, the photographer’s explanation of using vintage clothes and wanting to get that vintage look was spot on. I believe Amber Mortensen captured that feel in this shot. Also, I know first hand how difficult it is to work with animals and the horse/pony is really beautiful and “posing” just right, which is not an easy accomplishment. I like the models’ attitude; their poses play off each other and the horse. I also like how the natural light is blowing out some of the detail, giving it that very vintage “film” quality but Amber also kept the detail in the garment which is tantamount in fashion photography. Great shot, Amber!
