Melissa,
YOU ROCK!
I found your Blog about 3 hours ago and spent the last 3 hours with reading :-) you really inspire me and give me the confidence to keep on doing photography. Since I can think I am doing photos, my father learned me how to do in his own labour and little studio. I kept following my passion but unfortunately studied something completely different. Don´t know why. Now I am realising that fashion photography is my big LOVE, and yes, I will try to make it....one day. Thanks for your Blog and your advices, they are incredibly helpful. I am wondering every day how one could make a step into the fashion-photography scene.
All the best from Germany,
Kathrin

Nice! especially the last question, I have one that is in line somewhat:: With the advent of HDSLR to shoot HD video with are cameras it seems good to play around & make a short film, etc. but to take it serious as an extra income which is the big draw especially in this economy, do you think when it comes down to it buying all the extra gear continuos light package/panning tripod/learning final cut is worth the extra income to support yourself only to try & craft that still style you have in your head????.... I have some serious still photo styles that
I know take lots of concentration, when the mind meditates on a thing over & over I know im totally in it, what seems good to play with HDSLR may distract from achieving the styles I want!!

Thanks,
    Greg

Hello from Boston,

Thank you for sharing your history. It is refreshing to read an honest account of how someone actually broke through vs. pre-packaged advise on how to "make it". It is much easier to relate to a person, you, than it is to a dry "how to" white paper on Fashion photography!

I like the un-pretentious style of your writing and your blog. Keep up the good work!

I'm so glad I came back to this post Melissa. This post reminds me of how determined I am to make it in this industry. I am being extremely patient, I'm contacting agencies, testing, gaining experience, updating my book, and I'm not letting any rejection discourage me. I'm also blessed to have a wife that backs me up 150% (she's also my make-up artist which is a big plus!).

Can't thank you enough for what you do. You are inspiring, and one of the coolest photogs in my book. :)
