Keeping up with the Blogging Joneses

Finding Time in my Chaotic World

Little Bergdorf

Pretty much the only complaint I get about my blog is that I don’t blog enough. I don’t write often enough, and I know that I don’t. The main excuse I have is that I don’t really have the time. I’m either prepping a shoot or editing a shoot or keeping on top of the post work on a shoot or looking for more shoots. Plus, I do have a life outside of photography, strange as that may seem. But another big excuse that I have, that I’ve never really talked about, is that there is a confidentiality that I must adhere to in my business. I’ve shot 20 pages in the last month for the Fall Fashion issues of this magazine and that magazine. But I can’t show the pictures, I can’t release them to anyone but the stylist for the clothing credits and of course, the magazine I did the shoot for. I can’t even talk about what the concept was, who the models were, how we shot it, where we shot it. All the details that would make for a juicy post, I cannot write about. So all the work that I do, that would be great to share with you, I can’t share until the magazine or ad is published. Which is why, in the meantime,  I blog about the business or staying sane in the fashion industry.

You Need A Website + A Contest!

portmashup

This isn’t gong to be Earth shattering news: You need a website if you want to be taken seriously as a fashion photographer. You need a website along with a portfolio if you’re going to promote yourself as a fashion photographer. I am lucky enough to have a husband who knows how to design and build flash websites. However, lately I have been wanting to have the freedom and nowadays, the luxury of being able to manage my own site. I am tired of having to ask someone else (even my husband!) to upload new content when I want to update my site. Well, I have some good news…..there are now websites that offer photographers just that: the freedom and luxury of managing their own websites. The day has arrived where we don’t have to take the BS anymore from these overpriced, and sometimes difficult website designers. I swear to God, at this exact moment, 150 photographers around the globe are complaining about their website designer.  But I won’t go on about that right now. We all know the complaints. I’m just happy that finally we can take the power out of their  hands and update our sites whenever and however we please. If the mood strikes you at 4 AM to upload those new beauty pics to your site, by all means, you now have the power and ability to do it.

Attempting to explain “The Process”

Learning that you just have to let go and FEEL the shot

PeterTest

I’m going to go ahead and admit it: I was very sad about Michael Jackson’s early departure from this realm. No, I didn’t own any of his albums nor did I go to any of his concerts. I lean more towards rock n’ roll, baby. But I grew up with Michael, in a sense. We are roughly the same age and I grew up listening to the Jackson 5. And I witnessed the Motown 25 year Anniversary special on TV the night Michael did his legendary moonwalk and the music industry changed, over night! I remember that night clearly, in 1983. Michael took the world by storm! He became a legend!

6 Links That Rock My Web World

A couple of my favorite websites and
why I watch them religiously.

I’m back in the middle of pre-production again this week, prepping two editorials for Fall Fashion issues for two different magazines. Stay tuned for details. The more I find out, the more I’ll let you in on the shoots!  But in the meantime,  I really want to share with you some amazing websites that are chocked full of very useful information. These are websites that I either follow every day, that I’m subscribed to or that I visit frequently. The people that run these sites aren’t friends of mine, I don’t know them, most sites I’m not linked to so this isn’t some shameless promotional post with all my “blog buddies” getting a shout out. These are websites that I use to help my own photography career. So let’s get started, shall we? I’ve listed the link and why I favor it so much. And do me and your other fellow readers a favor: list your favorite link or two in the comment section. I think it’s very important to share knowledge and information. Thanks!
